Socialprize

social
As a “mompreneur/mommy blogger”, I work hard to achieve my goals. I am constantly contacting companies, testing and reviewing products. That may seem easy and fun, and it can be.. I love my family’s faces when the UPS man pulls up with something new for us to review.

But, it can also be frustrating, disappointing and stressful. It can be stressful to meet deadlines, with children, a household, a husband and other responsibilities to tend to. It can be frustrating when I don’t get enough sleep, because I was up writing a review and tending to Tater. It can be disappointing when I don’t get a response from a company or when they do not want to offer me a product because my readership was not to their standards.

A lot of work goes into a blog, from the way the background looks, to where ads are placed to just the right words in every post. And for a “reviewer” like me? I even have to contact the companies and represent myself. I am always looking for ways to increase my readership and followers on Facebook and Twitter.

And there is even more to learn and do when you have a blog. Like learning HTML ( HTML is a language for describing web pages), or what SEO is. Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines. In general, the more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. Companies look at SEO and data from sites like Facebook and Twitter to determine your blogs “worth” so to speak.

All this work is worth it, because I see my blog as my job, as a way to provide my family with an enriching experience as well as provide for my family in a very unique opportunity.
I was presented with the unique opportunity to review for Socialprize. A very unique way to share and get your business or blog in the mainstream. It is a great way to increase your fan base, though social media networks, like; Facebook and Twitter. Social Prize taps into the potential of many social networks and gets more people talking about your brand online, fast!

*“A Social Prize sweepstakes is a cost-effective way to engage your fans, reach their friends and find new fans”.

Socialprize invites people to win prizes, entry is simple: like “so and so” company on Facebook” and be entered into win an awesome prize like: an Apple iPad, Target gift card or other great prizes!
They make it so easy for you! They do almost all the work for you! They have official rules drafted, banners designed, Facebook tab generator and widget code ready to go and will automatically track entries and select a winner.

It has been amazing to work with Socialprize. They did exactly as they promised. They were very efficient at helping me gain new Facebook and Twitter followers. My Facebook fans went from 8 to 86! In just two months! My Twitter followers went from a sad 4 to 31! I am completely amazed!

I am a believer in what Socialprize can do! I know it works! I absolutely cannot wait until they come out with a sweepstakes to increase your Google Friend Connect Followers!

Want to know more? If you want to increase your company’s potential through social media networks, using an amazing tool or just want to win some awesome prizes? Check out Socialprize.com!

KBP Designs

There is a huge lack of cute and adorable clothing and accessories for little boys!
kbp
I wanted something for Tater’s holiday pictures that would be memorable, cute and affordable! Tater’s tie retails at $30.00 (USD). (Commemorating Tater’s first Christmas? Priceless)!

I found it on one of my favorite sites, Etsy. I discovered KBP Designs. I received the cutest candy cane tie for Tater. It’s green with candy canes on it. Perfect for church or special occasions, KBP Designs offers a cute selection of handmade ties for little guys. Each tie is individually made from quality fabric and crafted with the love and skill that makes them one-of-a-kind! (Tater was the only baby in church wearing a tie)!
sears7
Isn't he adorable?

I love the design. It was perfect! (The Hubs makes jokes about it, but, between you and me? He likes the tie)! It went with Princess’ tutu and our Christmas pictures. I’ve had Tater wear it to church and we got a ton of compliments!

KBP Designs offers so much more than ties. She makes baby, toddler and adult ties, as well as: hats, vests and diaper covers. She makes matching diaper cover and tie sets! They are simply darling!
kbp designs 2
I think Tater needs this, don't you?

Too, too cute!

I am in love with KBP Designs! If you are too, please check her shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/kbpdesigns!

Funkoos

funkoos
How could you possibly resist buying something that is as fun to say as “Funkoos”?
Funkoos sent me one of their “Baby Sets” for Tater. Funkoos is a company created to offer premium organic baby clothing at an affordable price.

I admit, I am not the “greenest” person in the world. I’m trying to “go green” a little more everyday, whether it be buying organic clothing, recycling, using safer cleaning products or even cloth diapering.

So, I wanted to know, what makes organic clothing better?

According to Funkoos, how is organic cotton different from regular cotton? Here's a comparison from Wikipedia.org: "Regular cotton production uses more chemicals per unit area than any other crop and accounts in total for 16% of the world's pesticides" and on the other hand, organic cotton "eliminates the use of toxic chemicals used in cotton."

What does that mean for your baby? This means your child is never exposed to any kind of lethal pesticide used in the growing of cotton. I didn’t know that! It’s a shame Funkoos only makes up to size 24 months.

Funkoos are a safer alternative. They are cute, safe and soft clothes for your baby!
Tater loved his Funkoos…He was so comfortable! I actually had to wash it before I even did my review! There was no squirming from an itchy tag (the onesie was tag-less)!  He slept, ate and did just about everything happily in his Funkoos outfit.
  funkoos2
I loved that they are safe and totally adorable. His outfit was a pair of jeans and a onesie with little trucks on it. The trucks even had eyes! They are absolutely darling! Tater may have not noticed…But I sure did!
022
Laying happily on the floor, wriggling away from Mom!

Funkoos would make a great gift this holiday season!  If you would like to order some fantastically cute and safe organic clothing for the baby in your life, please check out Funkoos website: http://www.funkoos.com/

Tutu Doll

We went to have the kids Christmas pictures done today, at Sears Portrait Studio. They turned out great! (Princess is quite photogenic and always pleased at the opportunity to ham it up in front of a camera)!

If you haven’t noticed, one of the cutest and growing trends in little girl’s fashion these days is tutus! Tutus for birthdays, photos, or just for dress up! Modern Mommy loves this cute, trendy and all together modern trend, so I set out in search of the most perfect and adorable holiday tutu. It had to meet certain requirements: Match what Tater’s attire, be full and fluffy. It must also be able to withstand anything we could throw at it, including; getting in and out of our two door car, survive playing, fidgeting and temper tantrums….

And I found it! On TutuDoll.com! They are simply beautiful! TutuDoll has a wide arrange of tutus for all occasions. Holidays, birthdays, photo sessions and so much more. They have a make your own tutu feature which includes your choice of: waistband ribbon, accessory and color! And all for a really affordable price. They even make matching tutus for girls and their dolls. (Could they make one for Princess’ lovie, Teddy?)
sears2
I did not choose one of the many different pettiskirts or “Make Your Own Tutu”, I had a specific purpose for Princess’ tutu. We picked the Holiday Sparkle Tutu. It has yards of soft light green tulle, accentuated with cute little red rhinestones and a bright red waistband and bow.
seas4
It was beautiful right out of the box. Princess just had to try it on (she just loves anything sparkly)! It fit her so well, the waistband stretched enough to fit, but, not enough to sag. It was very sturdy (it even withstood a temper tantrum)! I liked how instructions on how to care for your tutu were included.

*Hint for de-wrinkling: place in the bathroom, and turn on the shower. (P.S-Misguided daddies, please Do Not put the tutu in the shower)!

Tutu Doll is a great place to find a tutu for any occasion, whether it be for an event, photos, pictures, dance or just because your little girl loves ‘em! Tutu Doll has great prices and an even better selection!  And just in time for Christmas and Hanukkah, they offer Gift Certificates!
If you want the latest and greatest, cutest fashion trend for your little Princess, Please check out: TutuDoll.com

Lakeshore Learning’s Great Gifts for Kids Sale

logo_snow
I love Lakeshore Learning! I admired their products for a long time, having used their products often for babysitting, and was just recently presented with the opportunity to review for them.

They have a wonderful Great Gifts for Kids Sale going on, from art supplies, science projects and our favorite at Modern Mommy’s house: the Little Hands Kitchen Set! They have so much more! For all ages and stages! From infancy to pre-teens, from household to classrooms.
lakeshore learing set
The Little Hands Kitchen Set, perfect for lil' hands, just as the name implies! Oh, and there's the happy toast!
Princess and Tater loved this so much! They loved the lights and sounds! They loved the happy toast and how it popped up. Princess just loves the blender, she liked making smoothies, milkshakes and lots of other concoctions her imagination created. Tater really liked the tea kettle. He even learned how to press the button to make it work! Just the right size for little hands, just as the name implies, but works well for a range of ages!

I was partial to the little toaster. I loved the happy little toast, and how it worked like a jack-in-the-box (except not frightening. Does anyone else remember them being a bit scary?)
002
Making Mommy a smoothie!
Neither child wanted to stop playing in their play kitchen with these new appliances!
007
Not sure what they were doing in the box, besides blending something yummy!
We love our set so much! The set is on sale now for $19.95, it is usually $29.95. The age range for the “My Little Kitchen Set” is 18 months- 4 years). (Again, I used parental discretion and allowed Tater to play with the set, under my supervision).

Lakeshore Learning has so much more to offer than just the cute little kitchen set. As I said, I used a lot of their materials for babysitting and for teaching Princess. Along with the Little Hands Kitchen Set, I really love the Dot Art Painters, Magnetic Color Maze.
With their Great Gifts for Kids Sale going on, now is the perfect time to buy from Lakeshore Learning, whether online or at one of their great locations!

Mega Bloks Blok Squad Construction Set

When I was growing up, I didn’t play with blocks very much, not Legos™ or Mega Bloks™. I was much more of a tree climbing, bikes and Barbies™ type of gal!

However, my daughter, step-son and husband just love blocks. Princess loves her pink Mega Bloks.

Who got the most enjoyment out of the Mega Bloks Blok Squad Construction Set, you may ask?
Why, my 4th child, the Hubs! My husband loved building with these after the kids were in bed! He even set up a little display and picked out which “guy” got to sit in his “truck-dozer hybrid”. (Just so you know, it was the guy with sunglasses)!

There is a LOT to this set, 218 pieces to be exact. It was all a bit too much for me, so I set the hubs and Princess to work (this set is recommended for ages 5+. I, however, used parental discretion as Princess is 4 1/2). The set has very, very small pieces.(Please keep away from small animals and very young children).

They loved building together and using their imaginations to create. They didn’t create just a truck or a front loader, they created a hybrid! They set up scenes and just had a blast using this set. The set includes pieces to make a 4x4 truck, a front loader, little construction signs, 2 workers and even stickers! It was a lot for a very affordable price. (They retail for $9.99 USD).

Hubs, Princess, Big Brother and Tater (when he gets old enough) will get years of enjoyment out of this set. Mega Bloks are a wonderful way to get everyone bonding and building.

*“Blok Squad buildable playsets introduce kids to everyday heroes with themes such as fire patrol, police, and construction. Blok Squad is perfect for kids, ages 5 and up, who have transitioned from mini blocks to micro blocks and are ready for more detailed builds.”

If you want a set for this holiday season, be sure to check them out:   http://megabloks.com

Giveaway!

Kidsafe Inc. and Evenflo Gate

Today, the UPS man bought me a long, thin package. He asked if it was for Christmas (he looked at me a bit funny when I said “Nope”)!
It was, instead, my Crosstown Soft and Wide baby gate by Evenflo from KidsafeInc.com!
crosstown_gate_1
(As soon as I opened it up, Princess says “That’s the same brand as my car seat”! Talk about being brand conscious!)
I really, really like this gate! (I’ve owned a few! This one is by far my favorite!)

What I liked about the Crosstown Soft and Wide by Evenflo:
  • It is completely covered (no pinched fingers. It is also partially padded).
  • It extends from 38” to 60” inches wide, which is great as I have a place in my home that is nearly impossible to put a regular gate. (It was always just a hair too big! We use it to separate our kitchen and living room. It is mounted between a wall and our massive entertainment stand).
  • It’s a pressure mounted, totally collapsible (a bit like a playpen) gate.
  • It’s white and tan, very neutral colors, great for any décor!
  • It is lightweight.
  • It required no hardware.
  • It came with a travel bag for storage and, of course, travel.
  • Expands both horizontally and vertically (up to 27”). (The height is great, as both Tater and Princess are a bit tall for their ages).
What I didn’t like about it:
  • The directions were not all that user friendly. They are very particular about which way the insignia on the gate has to face. I am not sure why, as all of the hardware is covered.
  • It takes quite a while to get it set up. (My husband was much quicker than I was at it)! With practice, I will probably get faster, but, with two kids in tow, that isn’t ideal.

Overall, I really, really like love the gate. (Did I mention that already)? It has made my life so much easier and kept Tater safe There are way more pros than cons! A smart investment at a very affordable price.

While I love the gate, I don’t think Tater shares my enthusiasm!
014
I enjoyed ordering from KidsafeInc.com. The gate was nicely priced and it shipped out in record time!
Do you need a gate to corral the grandkids this holiday season? Or just need an affordable, expandable and collapsible baby gate? Fire up the pc and get onto KidsafeInc.com or if you want the Crosstown Soft and Wide Gate by Evenflo, here is a direct link to that page: http://www.kidsafeinc.com/Crosstown-Soft-and-Wide-Baby-Gate-by-Evenflo

Maybelline® BABY LIPS and Great Lash Lots of Lashes

I usually prefer the a more natural look. Cover up, lip stuff Extra Super Lash(whatever happens to be in my purse that day), maybe some eyeliner if I have time…
But, I have found something that shook up my make up routine! (I mean, mine hasn’t really changed since my Lip Smackers™ days).

I got to try two really awesome products… Maybelline’s BABY LIPS™ and Great Lash Lots of Lashes™ (yes, the one in the pink and green container).

I have always wanted to try Great Lash Lots of Lashes and never really got around to it..I have used all kinds of mascara (I even had some competition in my purse, Rimmel’s Extra Super Lash™). Much infatuated with the Brits I may be, a fan of their mascara, I am not! I even threw it away after trying my Great Lash! Great Lash has been around a while. 40 years and still going strong! Now I know why. Not only is the packaging iconic, but they new heart shaped brush is amazing! It’s soft and flexible (Finally, it won’t hurt when I poke my eyeball)! The mascara doesn’t clump!

I also received BABY LIPS™. This stuff is spectacular! It’s smooth and silky. It’s supposed to give you lasting hydration for up to 8 hours. I do not think mine lasted that long. However, it worked so well, I think I’ll get rid of the old reliable Chapstick™. (Actually, it was some medical stuff called RadiaBlock™ that I got in the hospital when I had Tater...It was gritty and tasteless. Ew).
babylips-carousel
BABY LIPS promises “No more basic lip balm”. And they are absolutely right, with vibrant packaging and a wonderfully hydrating formula! BABY LIPS comes in many flavors, including: Peppermint (you could smell it, but, it wasn’t overpowering), Peach Kiss and Quenched. I also tried the cherry one, it was my favorite! It added a hint of color and loads of hydration!
I have found a new favorite make-up line! Maybelline® Great Lash Lots of Lashes and BABBY Lips! I really, really love ‘em both! I threw out any mascara and lip stuff I had! You can find both products at local retailers or online.
Modern Mommy (Despite compenation for this blog, usually via the product, All opinions expressed are my own.  Just so you know!)

Sweet Treats FOR BABY

  sweet treats for baby2
(The title is misleading on this one)! I am not feeding Tater lollipops or cake!
Actually, I received some great little “diaper cupcakes” to review from “Sweet Treats FOR BABY”.
This is a new, Modern twist on that ever-popular, old classic, baby shower décor/gift, the diaper cake.

The set of four, extremely adorable, cupcakes are comprised of: a size 1 diapers, washcloths with a coordinating ribbon around each one. The are unique, cute and most important..Practical! You can never have too many washcloths or diapers! The whole package was very coordinated, from the washcloths to the ribbons to the cards!

They come in a cute little bakery box, with a window so that you can see the “cupcakes”. Just scrumptious! The price is delish, too! Only $15.50 (USD) plus $5.50 shipping in the US.
sweet treats for baby           007
These would be a great gift for a baby shower (which is the next stop for these cute little things! I just can’t wait to tell everyone where I got them!). They’d even be a great little gift to give when you go to visit baby in the hospital! (Much cuter and way more practical than flowers).

Sweet Treats FOR BABY has so much more than just diaper cupcakes! They have baby shower invitations, banners, nursing covers, baby shower kits and so, so much more! Everything is so charming, cute and sophisticated, you may just want to buy it all!

If you want an extremely beautiful, delightful and affordable gift for your next baby shower or want to check out any of the other awesome items at Sweet Treats FOR BABY… Check them out at:

Tater Update!

(Sorry it’s a day late, but, I had to wait until Tater fell back to sleep to write this)!

Tater turned 8 months old yesterday (11/2/11)!

He also got his FIRST TOOTH! It’s just peeking through. It is a bittersweet moment! I am so excited that he’s getting teeth (Yay! New foods)!
tooth
Isn't this tooth so cute?
I am also very sad, because each of his milestones are my last “baby” milestones. Tater is my last baby (I had a Tubal Ligation after having him via C-Section).

It is a top tooth (is that unusual? My mother-in-law thought so).

So, Good-bye sweet, gummy smile. Goodbye, my little toothless wonder. Hello, gnawing, biting stage. Hello, pearly whites and dentists!

Bounce U

 bounceU
After attending a friend’s awesome party at Bounce U earlier this year, Princess just had to have one, too.
So we picked a theme, bought presents and an ensemble to match the décor.
It was Hello Kitty™ inspired. (Her outfit was a creation of LilTXCutie on Etsy.com). We bough the décor (napkins, tablecloths, and favors).
It was great…at first! Every one had a wonderful time bouncing. The time allowance was perfect, just enough to tire the kids, but, not so much that they were sleeping at the tables!

But….And it’s a big but! I had several issues with our party!
  • We were on time to our party (we had several guests arrive early). I did not appreciate the phone call that my mother-in-law received before our event was scheduled to start, as we were en route.

  • However, I did have a discussion both over the phone, via e-mail and even when I arrived at the party...I wanted the decorations put out. Her balloon, tablecloth and plates, all money wasted because some one failed to put out our decor. Our Party Helper apologized, and I appreciate that. However, there were FOUR other people sitting down at the front desk that could have handled this task for him (since he was busy with our party).

  • He also was not able to fill out the sheet that tells us who gave what gift.(A service that is included an mentioned in the party packages).
  • We also NEVER got a souvenir t-shirt, yet another perk in our package, forgotten by Bounce U staff.
I was both (a little) pleased and (pretty darn) disappointed with our party. Overall, a fun time was had by all! The cake was delicious, our party helper was kind. I e-mailed them several times about the negative aspects of our party and had no response what so ever.
If you want to have a fun, bouncy party, check out Bounce U. Weigh the options carefully, though! (I know a few friends who had absolutely no problems with parties at our local Bounce U, so I ask…What Gives?) Make sure you get exactly what you pay for!
