Sproutkin

image
At our house, we love to read. I read, my husband loves to read (strangely his favorite is vampire romances, such as those by J.R. Ward). I love a wide variety of books, in particular historical fiction and biographies.

Princess has been reading since she was 18 months old. She is partial to the American Girl series’, Little House on the Prarie and just about any other book she can get her hands on.

‘Dozer loves to be read to, as he has cannot read yet. He loves books about ducks.

We love to visit the library, but time and weather don’t permit us to go as often as we would like.
Containing a toddler while trying to inspire a love of reading and help another, older child engage can be quite a feat! Sproutkin is amazing and unique in its purpose. As well as the quality of the books and the simplicity of its design.

Sproutkin is a monthly book subscription for kids 3-6, an easy way to expose kids to a range of picture books while maintaining your schedule, your shelf space, and your budget. Read at your own pace; how many Sproutkits you receive depends on how quickly you return the books! If you get attached to a book, you can keep your favorite selections, buying them at a 10% discount and returning the rest with free shipping!

My “Sprouts” were so excited once they realized what the package was. They immediately begged Nana, Hubs and I to read all 10 books!

She was overjoyed!

Bell, our cat, thoroughly enjoyed the twine the books came in!

Our Sproutkit

And read them we did! Over and over and over again!

They enjoyed every one (and they still are). From the “classics” to “lesser known gems”.
Our Sproutkit was called “There’s No Problem I Can’t Solve! It included:
  • Arthur Tricks the Tooth Fairy by Marc Brown.
  • The Five Chinese Brothers  by Claire Huchet Bishop
  • Stone Soup  by Marcia Brown
  • Caps for Sale  by Esphyr Slobodkina
  • My Daddy Snores  by Nancy H. Rothstein
  • Big Pumpkin  by Erica Silverman
  • The Scarecrow’s Hat  by Ken Brown
  • Duck in the Truck by Jez Alborough
  • A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman
  • Harry and the Lady Next Door by Gene Zion
We loved them all. The main theme of the kit carries through all the books, in some capacity or another.

Hubs favorite was “Stone Soup”. He read it as a child and still loves it!

My favorite was probably “My Daddy Snores”! How I can relate to the mommy! She tries to solve her problem by sleeping in various places, including the baby’s crib (it breaks) and the hamster’s cage (it stinks). Finally, on Sunday, when she “looks like a zombie having a bad hair day”, she takes Daddy to the doctor. He takes care of the snoring. They all sleep peacefully, until….Daddy starts to talk in his sleep!

Sprout kits are very much worth the money ($25 a month). You can also cancel anytime (I am not sure you’d want to. I know we’re hooked)! The other cool thing is that you can keep the books you want (or return them, with free shipping)!
